Hundreds of Congress aspirants have been thronging the residences of the Chief Minister, Ministers and leaders, for the last few days to seek assurances and secure ticket to contest BBMP polls.

With just six days to go for filing nominations, 1,400 aspirants are vying for Congress ticket. Candidates assured a ticket by the party have already started campaigning.

With an eye on grabbing the civic body from the BJP, the Congress has held several rounds of meetings to finalise the candidates. To devote more time to polls, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah divested himself from the Industry portfolio and offered it to Minister R.V. Deshpande.

Congress sources said the high command has warned against ward hopping and migration to other wards. It told the State Congress unit to issue ticket to candidates in wards where they are residents, and joined the party at least three years ago.
