This is good news for passengers from different parts of the city who need to catch flights at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
For providing better connectivity to the airport, the State cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned Rs. 31.50 crore for developing three roads, including a link road.
The decision comes in the wake of an increase in the number of arrivals and departures of passengers from KIAL and congestion on Ballari Road.
The State cabinet has decided to develop a new link road (Jala-Myalanahalli) connecting to the airport via Nagawara junction on Outer Ring Road, Thanisandra Main Road and Mylanahalli village.
It has decided to widen Jala-Mylanahalli approach road and the State highway (104) up to the boundary of KIA. The highway connects to the airport via Devanahalli and Bagalur.
The alternative road would be toll-free. The link road will benefit people residing in the eastern parts of the city.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said a sum of Rs. 21.80 crore would be spent on land acquisition and about Rs. 9 crore for developing roads. During peak hours, a total of 2,833 passengers depart from KIA while 2,856 arrive from various destinations. The number of passengers arriving and departing from the KIA is expected to exceed 4,000 soon, and double in 2030, he said.
Thought the BBMP planned this link road long ago, the project was shelved following pressure from politicians and the lobby of contractors that wanted all traffic to the airport to be routed via Ballari Road, according to sources.
It will be toll-free and is expected to benefit people residing in the eastern parts of the city
