: With the call for a bandh on Thursday, many organisations and groups are likely to raise their voice against women’s safety and atrocities against children. However, some parents of children studying at the school in Marathahalli, where the six-year-old was raped, said the issue was getting politicised.
A parent whose child studies in the school said it was disappointing to see many groups use this platform for political mileage. “It is unfortunate to see that groups were doing this for their own benefit. We are hoping that our cause is not lost and the fight for justice is getting louder with the turn of events,” the parent said.
Many parents refused to comment on the issue as they said that they were confused by the turn of events.
But another parent felt calling for the bandh and various organisations coming together would strengthen the cause and help them raise their voice against injustice.
“Hopefully, more people talking about it would make the authorities hear our concerns. It is time for the State government to wake up,” a parent said.
Gayathri Ananth, member of The Vigilant Citizen, who has been fighting to make the city’s schools safe, said: “If the bandh gives the authorities a message that we will not give up the fight to make the city safer for children, then the bandh’s purpose will be served.”
