A 25-year-old labourer was hacked to death by a group of 10 men over a trivial row in Madiwala on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Selvaraju, a resident of Bandepalya. He was accompanied by two friends, Kiran Kumar and Santosh, who have been admitted to St John’s Hospital with injuries.

According to the police, on Monday evening, Selvaraju, Kiran Kumar and Santosh were travelling in a friend’s autorickshaw when they were stopped by a group of 10 men for rash driving. They were on their way from Muneshwara Layout to Bandepalaya.

Later that night, at 10:30 p.m., the two groups confronted each other at 8th cross in Muneshwara Layout in a drunken state and attacked each other, resulting in Selvaraju’s on-the-spot death and injuries to two others. Selvaraju was attacked with broken beer bottles.

The police suspect old rivalry as the motive behind the attack. The Madiwala police have taken up a case of murder and are on the lookout for attackers.
