Railway authorities are considering linking Kempegowda International Airport with Namma Metro, Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has said.
He was speaking at the inauguration of Wi-Fi connectivity at Bangalore City Railway Station.
“We are still in talks (with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.) about the matter,” he said without elaborating. Railways will develop Byappanahalli terminal through a public-private partnership model that will be on a par with international standards. He said Rs. 120 crore was the estimated cost for construction of railway underbridges and overbridges. Part of it would be borne by the BBMP. Wi-Fi connectivity at the Bangalore City Railway Station will be free for the first 30 minutes, after which users will have to pay. They can buy scratch card priced at Rs. 25 for 30 minutes and Rs. 35 for one hour and valid for 24 hours. Additional browsing time can be bought online using debit and credit cards.
RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. is providing ‘RailWire’, a retail broadband distribution model of RailTel, as the powering engine for providing bandwidth through Wi-Fi. The Bangalore facility is a pilot project. RailTel will implement the same infrastructure for Wi-Fi connectivity at A1 and A category stations.
