Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Saturday sought reopening of the Mahatma Gandhi assassination case, arguing that the investigation was riddled with contradictions.
He said while photographs published after the assassination of Gandhiji showed four bullets, the trial was on three bullets. Nathuram Godse had claimed during the trial that “he was determined to fire only two bullets”, said Mr. Swamy.
At a programme organised by ‘The Open Platform for Netaji’ at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here, Mr. Swamy provided a conspiracy angle to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination. He pointed to the fact that Gandhiji was shot dead with an Italian Beretta pistol, which the British soldiers were using at that time.
Seeking an explanation on not shifting Gandhiji to a nearby hospital after he was shot and not conducting an autopsy, Mr. Swamy said he would appeal to the present NDA government at the Centre to reopen the case which “is shrouded in mystery”.
On the controversy surrounding the death of Subhas Chandra Bose in a plane crash, he read out a document where Shyam Lal Jain, Jawaharlal Nehru’s stenographer, who had deposed before the Khosla Commission. He said Nehru had dictated Shyam Lal a letter on December 26, 1945, informing him that he had received information that Bose was in the USSR custody.
