A two-and-a-half-year-old girl died after she accidentally fell into an eight-foot-deep open water sump in Garaducharpalya in Papareddypalya on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Shanmugha Shakthi, a resident of Garudacharpalya.

According to the police, on Friday evening, Shakthi was playing in front of her residence when she ventured into a compound of the house opposite.

The owner had left the sump open to fill water. While playing, the child fell in and drowned.

The death came to light after the owner of the house, Kuppaswamy, went to close the sump later in the night. He was shocked to see the body afloat. He immediately informed the girl’s father Vishwanath, a mechanic by profession, who had launched a frantic search for his daughter.

Vishwanath informed the police who retrieved the body.

The Mahadevapura police have taken up a case of death due to negligence against Kuppuswamy.
