A two-and-a-half-year-old girl died after she accidentally fell into an open water sump in Garaducharpalya in Papareddypalya on Friday night.

Shanmugha Shakthi was playing in front of her residence when she entered the neighbour’s compound where the owner had left the eight-feet deep sump open. The incident came to light when house owner Kuppaswamy went to close the sump at night and saw the body floating. He immediately informed the girl’s father Vishwanath, a mechanic, who had launched a frantic search for his daughter by then. The Mahadevapura police have taken up a case of death due to negligence against Kuppuswamy.
