Traffic movement on the busy Hosur Road was disrupted for more than four hours after a parked car on Hosur Road junction caught fire due to short circuit on Wednesday morning.

Hundreds of cars were stranded forming a serpentine queue for over two kilometres on either side of the road.

Though there was chaos on the road with vehicle honking and motorists cursing their fate, traffic police were absent.

“I called up control room to update about the jam who directed me to contact the Madiwala traffic police. I was then directed to call the jurisdictional Electronic City traffic police,” Sridhar Murthy, one of the motorists told The Hindu . “I even called the fire control room and informed about the accident. Though two tenders who came for help, they too were struck in the jam,” he rued.

Some frustrated truck-drivers and motorists volunteered to clear the traffic to allow vehicles to pass through.

“There was some traffic disruption, but we are trying our best to clear the road,” a senior police officer said.
