A 30-year-old watchman of a school was arrested on the charges of sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl on the school premises at Indiranagar on Tuesday morning.
According to the Indiranagar Police, Gautham was arrested based on the complaint filed by the victim’s parents and after being identified by the pre-nursery school student herself.
Gautham, who migrated from West Bengal, was working in the school for four years. He and his wife, who works as an attendant, live in a small room on the school premises. A senior police officer said the sexual assault had taken place in the room itself.
The parents of the girl learnt about the incident when the girl complained of pain in her private parts after returning from school around 1 p.m. on Monday. A complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, was lodged on Monday night.
Background of the accused
Gautham had moved to the city in 2008 from his hometown in West Bengal. He began working as a security guard in a residential apartment situated in Geetanjali Layout in Bengaluru East. He then worked in a packaging firm before joining the school in 2011-12 as a watchman. His two children study in the same school.
