40,000 on first day, first ride

July 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

The first day of its operation saw 40,000 people flooding the Chennai Metro Rail stations and a collection of about Rs. 16 lakh from ticket sales.

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. were overwhelmed with the positive response from the commuters on the day of the launch. “We hope the Chennai Metro Rail will be extensively used by people always,” an official said.

Thinner crowds

The second day saw far thinner crowds with commuters having difficulty in finding their way around the stations. However, staff were deployed at various points in the stations to offer assistance. A customer-care help desk is functioning.
