Moulivakkam trader seeks Court’s help

November 29, 2014 10:13 am | Updated 10:14 am IST - CHENNAI:

A business enterprise in Moulivakkam has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the authorities to declassify the property declared as ‘danger zone’ following the collapse of a multi-storied building nearby, on June 28.

In the petition, Arun Enterprises, represented by its partner, C. Dhakshinamoorthy, said it was engaged in the manufacturing and trading of wooden and steel furniture products.

The property is situated adjacent to the structure that collapsed. A portion of the multi-storied building even fell on the petitioner’s property, injuring two workmen and destroying machinery and goods.

The property was also used for rescue operations.

After the incident, the authorities declared the accident site and adjoining buildings, including the petitioner’s property, as ‘danger zone’ to aid in rescue operations.

Mr. Dhakshinamoorthy said, over the past four-and-a-half months, he had not been allowed to enter his premises, even to verify stock. He had suffered huge losses and had an outstanding bank loan.

When the matter came up before Justice V. Ramasubramanian, additional government pleader P. Sanjai Gandhi took notice.

Further hearing has been posted to December 8.
