DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin has moved the Madras High Court seeking to allow his petition seeking a CBI probe into the Moulivakkam building collapse that killed over 60 lives in June last year.
When the matter came up for hearing on Tuesday before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, the Advocate General appeared and sought time to get instructions. The case was further posted for July 15.
Mr. Stalin in his plea submitted that though the report of Justice Regupathy Commission into the incident on June 28, 2014 was submitted before the government on August 25 the same year, it has not been tabled in the floor of the Assembly.
Referring to the High Court orders in October last year over the matter that the detailed report be placed before the House and the report that had stated that design and executed foundation of the building was inadequate for a stable building, the petitioner contended that neither the report was placed in the House nor the investigating officer examined government officials who approved the plan.
As for the report filed on December 23 last year in connection with the incident, the petitioner contended that it had diluted the statements of the experts, who were cited as prosecution witnesses.
“The entire exercise of the investigation undertaken by the Special Investigation Team is a cover-up carried out in order to conceal and protect the real offenders by diluting evidence,” he contended, adding that a “weak” charge sheet has been filed.
