Tamil Nadu Association seeks speedy reimbursement of fees to schools

September 19, 2014 07:51 am | Updated 07:51 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu Nursery, Primary, and Matriculation Schools Association on Wednesday urged the government to expedite the process of reimbursement of fees to schools.

K.R. Nandakumar, secretary of the association, said that the schools had not been reimbursed for the admissions made under the 25 per cent quota under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act for the past two years and this academic year. “This has only added pressure. Some parents demand provisions such as books and uniforms,” he said.

A correspondent of a matriculation school said that the government must create greater awareness on the provisions of the Act so that more parents come forward. “Not all parents know about the age and eligibility criteria, but schools have to fill up the 25 per cent quota. Some schools did not get adequate applications,” he said.

They also demanded that the process of renewal of recognition of matriculation schools be made faster as it is pending for several schools. G.R. Sridhar, vice-president of the association, said that their other demands included getting permission for upgradation of nursery and primary schools, and starting Tamil medium in matriculation schools in rural areas.

An official said that they were in the process of collecting details from schools for the reimbursement process for the current academic year.
