Budget: Railways seek suggestions

February 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Union Ministry of Railways has sought views from rail users on passengers’ safety priorities, services and amenities ahead of the presentation of the Railway Budget this month.

The response has been sought via the Ministry’s Local Circles, a social media network on several aspects such as creating an effective awareness about the safety helpline number 182 and training of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) to handle situations effectively. Another is using SMS alert for emergency assistance and roping the district administration to drive awareness about unmanned crossings.

Likewise, a suggestion is that RPF personnel must go through regular fitness and customer service training and setting up of multiple counters for security check at railway stations. Passengers should be permitted to enter the platforms only an hour before the departure of the train. CCTV cameras should be made operational round the clock at every major station and platform and computer controlled automatic signalling system and anti-collision devices must be used.
