The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed chargesheet in the case relating to planting of a pipe bomb at the residence of former Union Minister V. Narayanasamy in January last.
Filing a voluminous chargesheet before Principal Sessions Judge P. Velmurugan on Tuesday, the agency charged six accused – Thiruselvam alias Kumar, Thangaraj alias Thamizharasan, Kaviyarasan, Kalailingam, Karthik and John Martin.
The case pertains to the planting of a pipe bomb beneath the Hyundai i20 car parked in front of the residence of Mr. Narayanasamy, former Union Minister of State, at No.5, Ellai Amman Koil Street, Puducherry.
The accused, who are members of the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA) - a banned organisation under the Unlawful Associations (Prevention) Act, 1967 - have been charged under Section 120 B (Conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, provisions of Explosives Substances Act, 1908 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
A press note from the agency said investigation undertaken by NIA conclusively established that the above accused were involved in a criminal conspiracy and committed a terrorist act.
The case is expected to come up for further hearing on Monday.
