April 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Doctors attached to a private medical college and hospital at Kirumambakkam resorted to a flash strike on Monday protesting against the alleged assault on duty doctors by the relatives of a patient who died at the hospital.

Police said Balaraman (43) of Kirumambakkam was brought to the hospital with complaints of chest pain and breathlessness at around 6 a.m. All the necessary medications were started and the patient was taken to Intensive Care Unit.

Soon after, the patient’s condition deteriorated and he succumbed. The relatives lost their cool when they were informed about the death and allegedly beat up three duty doctors.

The trio were treated as outpatients in the hospital.

A duty doctor in the hospital claimed that the patient already had rheumatic heart disease and mitral stenosis. Though nebulisation was provided the patient’s blood pressure and pulse dropped and he succumbed.

The doctors have decided to continue their strike till the police arrested those involved in the incident, he said.
