Tunisian authorities said a parliamentarian narrowly escaped assassination by masked men in Kasserine, a city near the Algerian border.

Interior Ministry spokesman Mohamed Ali Aroui said six men came to the home of Mohammed Ali Nasri, a member of the Nida Tounes party, early Tuesday morning.

Mr. Nasri told local radio that he fled to the second floor and leaped across to a neighbour’s home, breaking his leg.

The Interior Ministry spokesman said the attackers came from Mount Salloum, a known hideout of al-Qaeda-linked militants, who have repeatedly attacked Tunisian security forces.
