Following allegations that a public prosecutor in the 2G spectrum allocation case was in touch with one of the accused and allegedly shared with him certain details of the case, the Central Bureau of Investigation removed him and instituted a preliminary enquiry to probe the veracity of the charges.

“It came to our notice that Public Prosecutor A.K. Singh was allegedly in touch with Unitech managing director Sanjay Chandra who is an accused in a 2G spectrum allocation case. The case is at present under trial before the special court in the Patiala House Courts. Based on the information, the prosecutor was removed from the prosecution team and a preliminary enquiry was registered by us about four days ago to verify the allegations,” said a CBI official.

After registering the preliminary enquiry, the CBI summoned Mr. Singh and Mr. Chandra and examined them on Monday. “The court has been kept abreast of the development and another prosecutor inducted into the team to assist in the ongoing trial,” said the official, adding that the agency maintained a strict vigilance on its officials and prosecution teams and no instance of professional misconduct was taken lightly.
