All decisions I took were above board, says NCP leader

Retaliating against the former Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan’s attack on the Nationalist Congress Party, former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday threatened a probe against Mr. Chavan if the NCP came to power.

Mr. Pawar said decisions relating to urban development which Mr. Chavan took in his last months in power aroused suspicion.

“The same files which were kept aside two months ago were suddenly cleared. I am asking for details under the Right to Information on these files. We could ask for a probe,” he said.

Asked whether the NCP would support the Congress after the polls, he said, “There is no question of that. We will come to power on our own.”

Mr. Pawar denied allegations that the NCP pulled down the government to pave the way for BJP rule under the Governor.

“We did not want to be accused of contesting the polls separately but continuing to govern together,” he said.

On Mr. Chavan’s allegations that he could face the same future as the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, Mr. Pawar said, “All the decisions I took were above board. I believe that anyone who commits a misdemeanour should face the consequences.”

Mr. Pawar claimed that the NCP was willing to reduce its demand for seats from the Congress but found no response.
