East Godavari District Collector Neethu Prasad on Saturday said as many as 174 new polling stations had been proposed in the district for the convenience of voters.
Addressing a meeting of political parties at the District Collectorate in Kakinada on Summary Revision of Electoral rolls, she said presently 3,292 polling stations in 19 Assembly constituencies were functional, and that the new polling stations were proposed mainly in Vakkaluru in Y. Ramavaram mandal in Rampachodavaram agency division where voters had to travel long distances to cast their vote. Similarly, at AM Kota and other places, a total of 24 polling stations were proposed in the Rampachodavarm divison.
New polling stations have also been proposed in Kakinada rural, Rajahmundry rural and Mummidivaram constituencies where voters’ strength was more, while change of locations of polling stations have been proposed in 81 polling stations. Meanwhile, the names of 40 polling stations will be changed, she added.
Political parties have demanded a separate polling station at Hope Island where fishermen families are residing.
De-duplication campaignAs a part of the Summary Revision of electoral rolls, a de-duplication campaign will be taken up in the district from September 26 to October 10. Under the campaign, officials will remove duplicate entries in the electoral rolls, besides conducting door-to-door survey to find out missing eligibile voters.
