The Kurnool police arrested Telugu film actor Neetu Agarwal on Sunday for alleged involvement in smuggling of red sanders.
The 27-year-old actor was arrested at the Ullindakonda crossroads in Kurnool district, while she was travelling in a car to Bengaluru, Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna told journalists,
Ms. Agarwal from Rajasthan acted as the heroine in a film produced by Kondampalli Mastan Vali, Chagalamarri mandal president and YSR Congress leader, in 2013. She was closely associated with Mastan Vali, a lemon vendor who turned into a red-sander smuggler and politician.
On ascertaining that money was transferred from the accounts of the actor to smugglers in the Ahobilam area, the police froze her bank account.
The actor was named as accused no. 10 at the Rudravaram police station on April 13 in a smuggling case in which 34 logs were seized a couple of months ago. She was booked under the Indian Penal Code on charges of criminal conspiracy and other sections of the Forest Act for conspiring with smugglers. Her associate Mastan Vali was arrested on April 13.
