APCC chief blames AP, Telangana govt. for on going farm crisis

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief N. Raghuveera Reddy blamed the state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the ongoing agricultural crisis, and the fast depleting water levels in reservoirs.

Reminding the scuffle between the two states with regard to hydro power production by TSGenco using the water from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs last year, Mr.Reddy said had the state governments resolved the issue amicably, agriculture would not have taken the brunt now.

Describing the situation as alarming, he said the reservoir levels wouldn't suffice even drinking water requirements, let alone irrigation. Referring to the Krishna River Management Board's announcement that irrigation cannot be permitted; he wondered what would be farmers' plight henceforth. He predicted severe fodder scarcity and difficulty in obtaining rice for PDS, in view of only two lakh acres sown/planted against the usual 14 lakh acres.

In another statement, he condemned the suspension of Congress MPs from Lok Sabha.
