The CPI (ML) New Democracy Andhra Pradesh State unit on Tuesday appealed to the Centre to immediately start working out the modalities for establishment of the State capital without having to wait for 10 years time as mentioned in the terms of reference of the Group of Ministers. Addressing a media conference the party State secretary Gade Diwakar has highlighted the need to shift the administration of the State capital to any region enabling the functioning of administration on an ad hoc basis until the process of the location for the capital and its formation were over. “The capital city is meant to give access to the ordinary people and not just for legislators,” he commented. Accessibility should be the basis for the location of the capital region, he asserted.
The New Democracy leader said his party was contesting in three Lok Sabha seats and a similar number of Assembly segments in Andhra Pradesh, three MP seats and 12 Assembly seats in the Telangana region. The party has decided to field U. Venkateswara Rao, secretary of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), in the Eluru Parliamentary seat, K. Polari, IFTU State secretary, in the Eluru Assembly segment, and Dharmula Suresh in Polavaram (ST reserved). Mr. Venkateswara Rao said his party would highlight the evils of purchase of votes and flow of liquor during electioneering. T. Sudhakar, the party district secretary, expressed his regret over the Parliamentary elections slipping into the hands of corporate giants by reducing the poor and the common man to mere spectators.
