Former Delhi Metro Rail Corporation MD, E. Seedharan on Sunday submitted a detailed project report for taking up metro rail project in Vijayawada covering two corridors at an estimated cost of Rs.5,705 crore, which would increase to Rs.6,823 crore by the time it gets completed by 2019.
Mr. Sreedharan, who was earlier appointed principal advisor to Andhra Pradesh Government on metro rail projects, would be submitting the DPR pertaining to Visakhapatnam by June.
Union Minister for Urban Development, M. Venkaiah Naidu was also present at the residence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu when Mr. Sreedharan handed over the report.
The report mentioned that the cost for Corridor-1 from Pandit Nehru Bus TerminaI to Penamaluru, covering a distance of 12.76 km would be Rs..2,557 crore. It was estimated that cost for Corridor-2 from Pandit Nehru Buse Terminal to Nidamanauru would be Rs.3,148 crore.
It was also metioned that private land in an extent 29.444 hectares and Government land in an extent of 1,595 hectares would be required for the project.
