The future belongs to transformative technologies that could revolutionise business, governance and society and the country’s research and development wings should invest in future technologies that can shape India’s future, said member, Niti Aayog and former director general, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Vijay Kumar Saraswat.

“There are disruptive technologies like Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology etc. that have already displaced existing ones. Cold fusion is becoming a reality and 3-D printing has revolutionised manufacturing technology,’’ Dr. Saraswat said as he addressed students at the Graduation Day celebrations in RVR & JC College of Engineering here on Saturday.

One of the leading scientists in missile technology, Dr. Saraswat minced no words as he reflected on India’s lack of commitment in investing in science and technology.

Innovation Index

The country fared poorly in the Global Innovation Index ranking 76 among 143 countries and needed to invest in value addition in research and development and science and technology.

Science and technology would continue to play a major role in forming policies in e-governance, climate change and food security.

Earlier, president of Nagarjuna Educational Society K. Basavapunnaiah said that the college was awarding Original Degree certificates for the first time after getting autonomous status in 2013. He also said that the college had made many strides after being established in 1985.
