The State government has decided to rename the erstwhile AP Beverages Corporation Limited as AP State Beverages Corporation Limited.
A decision to this effect was taken by the State Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Saturday. The marathon meeting discussed the availability of liquor in the State and felt that the existing capacity was insufficient to meet the demand. “We are forced to purchase liquor from other States like Telangana and Karnataka as there are no distilleries in the State,” Minister K. Atchannaidu said. The Cabinet had accordingly decided to allow setting up of new distilleries in the State. It was decided to evolve a transparent policy on setting up of new distilleries in the State.
The Cabinet had, in principle, agreed to sanction land to industries in 10 major locations across the State including Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Chittoor and other districts in line with the requests made by the industry.
A detailed policy outlining the location of the lands and the extent that would be allotted to the industry would be announced soon.
