Women leave traditional oil lamp at Rangarayuducheuu in Ongole on Sunday.

The Rangarayuducheruvu was bustling with religious activity as pious women put afloat traditional oil lamp on plantain stem to mark the end of Karthika Masam.

Braving the biting cold women in large numbers visited the picturesque lake with reverence at the break of dawn to offer worship to Lord Siva as also Lord Kesava as a culmination of month-long prayers. The cultural tradition has been followed for centuries to give a farewell to Karthika Masam and invite Dhanur Masam, said Thyagaraja Mandiram founder trustee P. Ramachandramurthy.

Meanwhile, Ayyappa devotees performed Padi puja at the Ayyappa temple abutting the Rangarayuducheruvu on the auspicious occasion.
