The Central Bureau of Investigation is all set to exhume bodies of the two Badaun victims following the medical board's recommendation for a second round of post-mortems.
“In the Badaun case, the medical board has recommended that there is a need to exhume the bodies of the alleged rape victims for further investigations. Subject to an approval from the court, the tentative date scheduled for the exhumation is July 20 [Sunday],” said a CBI official.
The agency was awaiting the medical board report as the bodies have been buried along the banks of the river Ganga. “During the monsoon season, water level in the river may rise, causing problems for us in exhuming the bodies. A fresh post-mortem by experts may throw light on the exact cause of the deaths and surrounding circumstances,” said another official.
The agency decided to get a second post-mortem conducted as “the first round of post-mortem was conducted at night and by a doctor with no prior experience”.
The CBI, which is also probing the “honour killing” angle, has gathered fresh evidence in the case. “We have seized the slippers of one of the victims at the instance of her father,” said the official, adding that he along with two other family members and the prime witness in the case has already been subjected to polygraph test.
The agency is also awaiting a report on the lie-detector tests conducted on the five accused persons earlier arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
