Bajrang Dal members vandalise theatres screening PK in Ahmedabad

Staging a protest against the portrayal of Hindu religion and of Pakistan in the Aamir Khan starrer PK, members of the Bajrang Dal on Monday allegedly vandalised two theatres screening the movie in Ahmedabad, the police told The Hindu.

Around 50 protestors armed with sticks allegedly vandalised Shiv and City Gold theatres, which face each other on Ashram road.

“They damaged the box office window. We have registered two FIRs for rioting, damage to property and other charges. From preliminary inquiries it was found that they were Bajrang Dal activists. We will take strict action against those responsible,” said Virendrasinh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police. Mr. Yadav said police bandobust has been deployed at theatres screening PK .

The police have named Bajrang Dal member Jolit Mehta in the FIRs. He and 50 other unknown persons have been charged under the IPC Sections 147, 148, 149 for rioting; section 506 (2) pertaining to criminal intimidation, 427 for damages and 323 for causing hurt.
