Angry with admit cards being issued for the Civil Service examinations without resolving some of their long-standing issues, a large number of aspirants residing around Delhi University North Campus on Friday allegedly resorted to violence, causing injuries to seven persons. The protesters allegedly set fire to a police vehicle and resorted to stone pelting. The police lobbed tear gas shells and made a lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
The violence also disrupted traffic in the entire North Delhi as it also coincided with a heavy movement of Kanwarias in the region and the evening rush hour. Traffic was halted for several hours even as police and the protestors continued to engage in a protracted battle between parked vehicles.
“Thousands of students live near Mukerjee Nagar and they gathered there within a few hours after they heard that the admit cards were being issued for the preliminary examinations which is scheduled for August 24. Many of them were angry and feeling betrayed,” said a protester.
The students have been alleging that the changes in the preliminary and mains examinations are discriminatory for the Humanities students and Hindi medium and regional students. They have been demanding the immediate removal of discriminatory C-SAT paper from Prelims Examination.
