Congress, BJP slug it out over heckling of CMs

Modi weakening ‘federal spirit,’ says Congress

August 22, 2014 02:31 am | Updated April 21, 2016 04:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Congress and the BJP engaged in a war of words on Thursday over heckling of Chief Ministers allegedly by BJP workers while sharing a platform with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at official functions.

While the Congress described the hooting as a deliberate attempt by the BJP to humiliate Chief Ministers from opposition parties in the States where Assembly elections are due, the BJP accused the Congress of not being able to reconcile itself to its defeat in the general elections.

Senior Congress functionaries Ambika Soni, Shakeel Ahmed, and Manish Tewari trained their guns on Mr. Modi saying he was “weakening the federal spirit” while professing to strengthen it.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who was heckled while sharing the dais with Mr. Modi in Solapur last Saturday, boycotted functions attended by the Prime Minister in Nagpur on Thursday.
