Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar, who was in Patna on Wednesday to participate in a protest march organised by the students of Patna Arts College, said the education system not only in Bihar but in the whole country was in a complete mess and that successive governments were responsible for it. He, however, shied away from attacking the Bihar government over the Class 12 results scam and said, “More reforms are needed in the education system.”
Unlike his last visit in April this year, when a fleet of cars accompanied him as he met chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, the JNUSU president was not accorded a VIP welcome by the state government this time.
On Wednesday, he also visited the Beur jail to meet his friend and state secretary of All India Student’s Federation (AISF) Sushil Kumar and six other students who were lodged there after a scuffle with some members of the students’ wing of the ruling Janata Dal (United) a few days ago. The AISF students were supporting the protest of the Patna Arts College students who, for over two months, have been demanding revocation of the expulsion of eight students, release of incarcerated students and the removal of the principal.
