Four persons, including two Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers, were killed when a landslide hit an under-construction road in Chamoli, on Tuesday.

Construction work was underway on Malari road in Chamoli district, where the incident occurred. The BRO has been deployed for the construction. The debris from the landslide fell on a vehicle that the BRO was using and buried the driver of the vehicle and his assistant, Chamoli District Magistrate Ashok Kumar said.

Two locals also got killed in the incident.

"There has been continuous rainfall in the region in the past few days, which might have been the cause of the landslide," Mr Kumar said.

Rescue teams were immediately deployed in the area, Mr Kumar said.
