Varunya Chandrashekhar, a promising young tennis player from Mysuru, is one of the six players who is representing India at the Mary Pierce Indian Ocean Series ITF Women’s $10,000 event, under way in Mauritius. The tournament, which began on June 8, will be on till June 24.
Legendary tennis player Mary Pierce is guiding the participants throughout the tournament at Grand Baie, Mauritius.
For the past four years, incense stick manufacturer Mysuru’s Cycle Pure Agarbathies has been sponsoring the tennis prodigy. The 20-year-old has triumphed in 32 national ranking tennis tournaments and finished runner-up in seven. Her highest national ranking is 16th.
Having won a number of titles in recent times, including the National Ranking AITA Women’s Tournaments in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune, Ms. Chandrashekhar dreams of climbing up the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, a release said.
