Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah has said that the Congress has urged the Union government not to notify the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) until the issue gets resolved in the Supreme Court.
Speaking to presspersons before participating in the convention of Kuruba community in Bijapur on Sunday, he said that in the interests of Karnataka, the State Congress had appealed to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government not to notify the final award.
“The Karnataka government has filed a petition before the Supreme Court on water sharing with Tamil Nadu. In such a situation, the Centre should not notify the final award,” he said.
To a question on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s decision to present the budget on February 8, the Congress leader said that since the government has been reduced to minority, it has lost moral right to present the budget.
“By presenting the budget, the BJP government is only trying to bring disrepute to the Constitution,” Mr.Siddaramaiah said.
Accusing the government of being shameless and immoral, he demanded that Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar recommend dissolution of the Assembly and seek fresh mandate.
Asked whether the Congress would move a no-confidence motion in the House, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the decision would be taken by gauging the political situation. Terming the BJP and the Karnataka Janata Paksha of B.S. Yeddyurappa as two faces of the same coin, he rebutted the allegations that the Congress had a secret pact with the KJP.
Later, addressing people of the Kuruba community, he advised the community to stay united to seek socio-political justice.
