Hit by vehicle, leopard dies

A leopard that was allegedly hit by a heavy vehicle near Hema Gangothri on Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway near here on Monday night succumbed to injuries later.

The male leopard, aged about six years, was lying on the highway with serious injuries.

Treatment gone in vain

The Forest Department staff shifted the animal to Gendekatte Forest Park near here, where the veterinarians treated the animal. However, the animal succumbed to injuries late in the night.

Range Forest Officer Dharmappa told presspersons that the animal was hit by an unknown vehicle on the highway. It had serious injuries and died.

The forest staff burnt the carcass at Gendekatte park on Tuesday.
