The historic Communist movement in Telangana should serve as an inspiration for building a strong Left and democratic unity. Efforts should be made for developing an alternative to meet the aspirations of people in Telangana, said CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat.

Inaugurating the first conference of the party’s Telangana State committee here on Sunday, he said the sustained peasantry struggle and the movement against the despotic rule of the Nizam was the precious legacy of Telangana. It is time the Left forces unite to fight against the wrong polices of the Centre and the State governments.

Mr. Karat expressed satisfaction at the 10 Left parties coming together in Telangana. At the all-India level too, six Left parties had joined hands on common issues to launch a joint struggle. A broad Left platform should emerge in the country. The draft political resolution to be adopted at the ensuing 21st Congress of CPI (M) will set the roadmap for accomplishing this task. It will give a strong direction to the party in the coming days – both politically and organisationally, Mr. Karat said.

He said the all-India Congress of the party was being held at a time when the country was witnessing a right wing offensive. Carrying out an integrated fight against Hindutva forces is essential, he added.

A large number of party workers turned up for the four-day conference. It was red shirts and red salutes all the way. Mr. Karat released a mobile app developed by the party’s Telangana committee. The app provides information about the party’s programmes and activities.

P. Madhu, secretary, CPI (M), AP committee, said the dissatisfaction among people against the Modi government was bound to increase in the coming days. The Delhi election verdict was a case in point. He regretted the reduction of subsidies given for various sectors from Rs. 3.70 lakh crore to Rs. 2.60 lakh crore.

Leaders of RSP, CPI-M (Liberation), Forward Block, MCPI and SUCI also spoke about Left unity being the only alternative. CPI (M) Polit Bureau members M.A. Baby and B.V. Raghavalu were present on the occasion.

Later, Telangana Finance Minister Eatala Rajender inaugurated the cultural camps organised by the CPI (M) as part of its four-day conference at the Nizam College grounds.

Carrying out an integrated fight against Hindutva forces is essential, he says
