Minister for Cooperation H.S. Mahadev Prasad on Thursday said that the Cooperative Election Commission will be rechristened Cooperative Election Authority.

The commission had come into effect following amendments to Karnataka Cooperative Societies Act, 1959.

Speaking to pressperson here, Mr. Prasad said that those submitting applications seeking membership in cooperative institutions must furnish information for enrolment within three months from the date of submission. “Applicants who fail to furnish information will not be considered for membership,” he said.

Mr. Prasad said that there should be at least 11 members in primary cooperative societies.

Out of 11 seats, two were reserved for women, two for members belonging to Scheduled Castes and one for Scheduled Tribes.

He said that provisions had been made to take up disputes pertaining to elections to cooperative institutions before the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for redressal following amendments to the Act. “This allows faster disposal of cases,” he said.

Revenue from M.M. Hills

Mr. Prasad said that 80 per cent of revenue from Sri Malai Mahadeshwara Temple in Chamarajnagar district should be given to M.M. Hills Development Authority. This had become possible following the changes brought to the authority’s functioning.

“The remaining 20 per cent of the temple revenue would go to the Muzrai Department,” he said.

The temple revenue would be used for developing infrastructure in the hills and temples located in the vicinity, he added.
