Special Judge under the Prevention of Corruption Act B.P. Deshpande on Saturday directed Goa’s former Director of Prosecution (DoP) Shobha Dhumaskar to remain present in court on November 7 in connection with a corruption case against her.

Ms. Dhumaskar, who is facing corruption charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, had failed to be present in Court despite having been summoned as an accused two months ago.

On Saturday, her lawyer submitted a medical certificate that the former DoP has been advised three weeks complete bed rest but when the Judge stated that the doctor would be summoned to ascertain the veracity of the medical certificate, the lawyer agreed to keep her present in court on November 7.

Complainant Aires Rodrigues earlier drew the court’s attention that Ms. Dhumaskar had been evading court and wondered if she was making a “mockery” of the court.

The Bombay High Court at Goa has already declined to stay the trial of Ms. Dhumaskar. On August 5, 2011 activist lawyer Aires Rodrigues had filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch of the State against Ms. Dhumaskar, alleging her of causing loss to the State exchequer.
