Visvesvaraya Technological University nullifies call for recruitments

December 17, 2014 12:22 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 04:51 pm IST - BENGALURU:

In a new twist to the recruitment process at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the varsity has nullified the advertisement for nearly 120 teaching and non-teaching posts called in March this year.

The call for recruitments was made a day before the election code of conduct came into force.

The recruitments were to be made to government engineering colleges in Karwar, Raichur, Gangavathi and Hoovina Hadagali.

Confirming this, VTU Vice-Chancellor H. Maheshappa said none of the processes for filling up posts had begun. “We called for applications on March 4. The following day, the code of conduct came into force. We gave a corrigendum about one of the qualifications required, after which the Belagavi District Election Commissioner questioned us,” he explained. VTU will call for fresh notifications to the posts later, Prof. Maheshappa said.

A few MLCs had filed a complaint with the State government in December 2013, about irregularities in the VTU’s recruitment process. In October this year, contents of the report of the preliminary inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process were leaked and the then Additional Chief Secretary G.V. Krishna Rau deemed the process of recruitment to 168 teaching posts as “a fit case to be ordered for an investigation”.

The inquiry conducted this January said VTU’s 2011 proposal to create 168 teaching posts was approved in 2012 by the government. VTU then issued advertisements calling for applications in March 2013.

In July the same year, the government suspended the process after allegations of malpractice was raised in the Legislative Council.
