Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not attend the Aam Aadmi Party’s National Executive meeting on Wednesday when it meets to decide on the fate of its two senior leaders — Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, sources said.
Mr. Kejriwal, who is the party’s National Convener, has given the pretext of ill-health and official commitment for not attending the meeting, sources said.
Mr. Kejriwal will leave for Bengaluru on Wednesday evening for naturopathy treatment for a period of 10 days.
Mr. Kejriwal had tendered his resignation as AAP National Convener in the National Executive meeting held last week, but it was unanimously rejected. He had also skipped the meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body then.
Sharp differences have come to the fore within AAP with allegations that senior AAP leaders Bhushan and Yadav were trying to “remove” Mr. Kejriwal from the post of party convener.
AAP has convened a meeting of its National Executive on Wednesday to decide on all issues, including the latest controversy over differences in the party.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Kejriwal had said that he was hurt by the current rumblings in the party and would focus on Delhi.
“Deeply hurt and pained by what is going on in the party; this is betrayal of trust that Delhi posed in us,” Kejriwal said in a tweet.
“I refuse to be drawn into this ugly battle. Will concentrate on Delhi’s governance. Will not let people’s trust break under any circumstances,” he said.
