Amid reports that the Union Home Ministry has recommended names to President Pranab Mukherjee for gubernatorial posts in Goa, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit on Monday met the President and Home Minister Rajnath Singh triggering speculation that she might quit soon. The latest to put in his papers was Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, who resigned on Sunday after he was transferred to Mizoram.
Those close to the former Delhi Chief Minister indicated that she may quit sooner than later. “It is abhorrent for her to be felt not welcome. She has been thinking about leaving the post for quite some time and may take a call soon.
She has also planned out a few things for the near future,” one of them told The Hindu on Sunday. Among the probable candidates recommended by the Home Ministry are senior BJP leaders Lalji Tandon, V.K. Malhotra and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh The Centre has so far appointed six Governors — Kaptan Singh Solanki in Haryana, Balramli Dass Tandon in Chhattisgarh, Ram Naik in Uttar Pradesh, Om Prakash Kohli in Gujarat, Kesari Nath Tripathi in West Bengal and Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya in Nagaland.
