If all goes as planned, the Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS), the government-run press in Kochi entrusted with the printing of textbooks for Classes I to X, will complete the distribution of textbooks to school societies before the beginning of the academic year in June.
Officials said that the press has fulfilled 90 per cent of the print order for the 2.53 crore books for the academic year and the society has begun dispatching the consignments to the district depots as early as from April 7.
``Delivery of consignments to all the 14 district hubs is complete and distribution of books to the school societies in a couple of districts have already begun ’’, said Chadrasekharan Unnithan, State coordinator, textbook distribution.
The distribution of books from the Depots to the respective school societies is entrusted with the Department of Posts and it has been also directed to complete the distribution within 30 days of receiving the consignment, he added.
Besides, instructions have been passed on to the unaided schools to intimate their requirement and the authorities have so far received 536 indents in this regard.
Similarly, as many as 12002 schools in the government and aided sector have completed the formalities for receiving the books.
