Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution, K.V. Thomas said that State Government has been taking strong action in the incident of two guards in the Italian merchant ship who killed two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast recently.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Thomas said that the Centre was fully supporting the State Government in this regard. He however denied that he had talked to newly-appointed Cardinal, Mar George Alancherry, who is now in Vatican. The Cardinal had told the Catholic news agency, Fides in Rome that he had talked to Catholic Ministers of Kerala urging the Government not to act precipitately on the issue.

Some reports have quoted Cardinal mentioning Mr. Thomas’ name as a mediator with the former's talks with the State Government.
