BJP, AGP demand that he should be probed by CBI in Saradha case

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday dared the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) to prove their allegations of his involvement in the chit fund scam.

“The BJP is at the helm of affairs at the Centre. If they have anything substantial evidence against me, why do they not come out into the open,” he added.

The AGP, the BJP and the KMSS have demanded that the Chief Minister should be brought under the ambit of the CBI probe into Saradha chit-fund scam.

In a statement, the Chief Minister also dared KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi to come out with evidence of his taking ‘commission’ from chit-fund companies. “If the KMSS leader has concrete evidence that I have taken commission from chit-fund companies, let him submit the evidence or else he should tender unconditional apology publicly. Otherwise, he will be served a legal notice,” he said. Mr Gogoi said it was his government which had handed over chit-fund cases, including that of Saradha, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) much before the Supreme Court asked the investigating agency to probe the Saradha chit fund scam.

Offices sealed

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) administration sealed offices of two non-banking financial companies – Rose Valley and Pearl Agrotech Construction Company Limited (PACL) – in the city since Friday. Kamrup (Metropolitan) Deputy Commissioner M. Angamuthu told The Hindu that offices of these two NBFCs had been sealed as they could not produce the mandatory No Objection Certificate from the district administration and other documents required under the regulations laid down by the RBI and the SEBI.
