A row erupted on Wednesday over the alleged discrimination faced by a 25-year-old Muslim woman Misbah Quadri who claimed she was denied a flat in Mumbai just because of her religion.
Even as social media was outraged over the issue, a complaint was lodged with the National Commission for Minorities (NCM).
The Maharashtra government said it would probe the alleged case of housing discrimination faced by the communications professional hailing from Gujarat. State Minority Affairs Minister Eknath Khadse said action would be taken against the guilty.
Lawyer’s pleaLawyer and activist Shehzad Poonawalla, who filed the petition to the NCM, called for an independent probe.
