After a weeklong lull in firing from across the International Border, Pakistan Rangers on Thursday night violated ceasefire and targeted a border outpost (BoP) in the R.S. Pura sector of Jammu.
“Pakistan troops resorted to small arms firing around 9:30 p.m.,” a police officer said.
He said the Pakistan Rangers fired three rounds of small arms fire at the Nawapind BoP in the R.S. Pura sector.
The firing came from the Thathi area of the Pakistani side.
“The BSF exercised restrain and did not retaliate to the Pakistani fire,” the officer said.
Apprehending that the latest incident of ceasefire violation could be aimed at facilitating infiltration from across the border, BSF has sounded a high alert along the IB.
“The firing could be aimed at aiding infiltration taking advantage of the dark, so the BSF has been put on alert on the IB to thwart any such bid from across the border,” he said.
