Former Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane on Thursday met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to explain his grievances with the party. Mr. Rane resigned from the Cabinet earlier this week.
Mr. Rane later told reporters that his meeting was “satisfactory” and Mr. Gandhi had patiently listened to the issues related to the situation in Maharashtra. Mr. Gandhi promised to take up the matter with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday evening. Mr. Rane said it was Mr. Gandhi who called him to New Delhi for the meeting and given him time. Now, it was up to the Congress to take a decision, he said. He said he resigned to highlight the fact that under the present Chief Minister the chances of a poor electoral performance were high.
Mr. Rane said if the Congress high command responded in a positive way to his grievances then he would consider taking back his resignation. He did not make any specific demand to Mr. Gandhi but only explained his reasons for quitting.
