Essar Group promoters Ravikant and Anshuman Ruia and Loop Telecom promoters Kiran and I.P. Khaitan appeared before the special court hearing the 2G spectrum scam case on Saturday and moved bail applications.

Summons were first issued to them by the court on December last to appear on January 27. As they did not appear on that date, summons were again issued for February 22. They were granted exemption from appearing on February 22. But as they failed to show up on March 17, Special Judge O.P. Saini had warned the accused that “it was in their interest” to appear before the court.

Hearing on their bail applications will now be taken up on April 21 after CBI counsel sought more time to file the agency's reply to the bail pleas.

Counsel for the Ruias, Mukul Rohtagi, said they were ready to commence arguments on the charges made out by the CBI against them in the charge sheet. The Ruias, Khaitans, fifth accused Vikash Saraf, and telecom companies Loop Telecom, Loop Mobile India and Essar Tele Holding are accused by the CBI of criminal conspiracy to cheat the Telecom Department.
